Re: mgzs td

Are there any exhaust gases in the engine bay. If so then it could be a manifold or downpipe leak causing the noise/smell rather than the pump. Timing solenoid failure is a very characteristic noise. It sounds like an old transit starting on a very frosty morning. It doesn't lead to excess smoke/sme...

Re: awd rover 220sdi

This is a LOT of work. Do not underestimate it! The freelander will have the Di engine as standard. The 220 can have either the intercooled engine (Di) or the non intercooled one (D). You'll have to modify the rover floor to fit the transfer box and the propshaft. The rear axle will be quite a lot o...

Re: adjusting boost MG ZT-T

So long as there isn't a boost control valve used (and I don't think there is), then yes shortening the actuator will increase the boost level.

I have to say I've no idea on what boost level the BMW engine can take though (The original turbo is very small from memory).

Re: MG ZT-T, got no clutch

Just remember to keep an eye on it as failure of the slave cylinder means fluid slowly leaks out. To change the slave you need to remove the gearbox.

Re: Rover 220 sd idling rough .. Keeps cutting out

Check/change the fuel filter (as turning up the fuel screw means more fuel flow is needed). If the pump doens't get enough fuel then it has the symptoms of running out of fuel. This is usually more pronounced when the engine is cold (and the fuel is cold and flows less well).

Re: rover 400 p reg

Try changing the fuel filter as it could be fuel starvation (and turning the fuel up will just make this worse).

Re: Improved lighting

If you are fitting high wattage (dipped) bulbs then you may as well try HID too (as both are technically illegal).

Whether they give a good beam pattern is a matter of luck really. What are the bulbs in the 45?

The 600 uses H1 for dipped and H1 for main too.

Re: PG1 Drive Shaft oil seals

If it is a bubble shaped car then it'll have the metal faced shields as standard. The earlier wedge shaped 200/400 could use either depending on their age In the later cars the metal shielded ones are the better ones. However you can happily use the rubber ones with a little care, (indeed my 600 has...

Re: Compression test

VP37 has a timing solenoid but this rarely fails (unlike the VP30!)
The VP37 is very reliable in general. The Freelander got a higher pressure version than the 200/400/600's and also different injectors too (smaller ones).
