I have a problem with a Rover 45 injection pump. I have bought another pump but it has come without the pulley.
The pulley is fitted on a taper, and so can be fitted in any position. There is a bolt that can be unscrewed in the side of the pump to lock the pump, is this the right position for fitting the pulley or not?
Injection pump pulley
Re: Injection pump pulley
Oh dear..
Is the spacer on the bolt that locks the pump or not? I.e. is it locked in position or not? If not then getting the timing right can be quite difficult.
N.B. Never remove the pulley without the pump being locked off in the right position!
If the pump is locked off then simply replace the pulley in the locked off position when the engine is locked into its position. I.e. pin in flywheel, and through the pulley into the pump.
If the pump isn't locked then you have a couple of options.
The first is send it back
The second is get a diesel specialist to set the timing for you
The third is to have a REALLY good look at the pump shaft. There is usually a witness mark where the pulley keyway is even though there isn't a key in the shaft. If you can line these up then you can get the engine running and then fine tune the timing from there.
Dakta put some instructions up on the web somewhere on how he does it. I'll see if I can dig them out when I get home (don't have access on this PC).

Re: Injection pump pulley
Cheers Dan,
I've rung local diesel specialist and they say they put them on a test rig to set the timing. I have got another pump coming with pulley still attached
