While I have regarded these engines highly for some time and have read a good deal about them, I don't recall ever seeing any reference to the significance of 'MDi'. Naturally, I appreciate that the 'Di' bit is 'Direct Injection' but whatever does the 'M' stand for?
The evolution of the engine designations ('B' to 'O' to 'MDi' to 'L' to 'G') doesn't give anything away and I have almost come to the conclusion that it doesn't stand for anything at all. Hopefully, someone out there will be able to put me straight
