glow plugs

Post by nicko500s »

diesels have come along way since my mk4 escort van, i had to use the glow plugs every start up, as i understand it with our modern diesels we shoulnt need to use the glow plugs to start the car except in very cold weather? i never do, my friend insists that he uses the glow plugs every start up on his works ford ranger and his R45 and that you should always use them, i thought that direct injection engines only needed assistance from the glow plugs if it was realy cold?

200/400/600 typically will need the plugs to start in cold weather.

25/45 etc typically start better in the cold than the above engines but the plugs will help

N.B. The glow plug light on the dash is not connected to the glow plugs and the timing of the plugs is different to the lamp.

Direct injection engines like the L series are much less reliant on the glow plugs than the indirect injection engines.
